Xi'an City Wall

I think it's best to visit the City Wall in the morning when the weather is cool. It's a nice place for a looooong walk to relax and enjoy a view of the city. Or you can rent a bike and cycle around the wall - it will take you about 1.5 hour (I was told). Just take your time, stroll and enjoy the view.

This is my favourite photo of the wall and surrounding area. I love the contrast between the ancient and modern.

I saw a few buidings in Xi'an that combine modern and Tang architectures.

What's a fortress without a moat to make life a little bit more difficult for the enemy. Maybe if I were taller, I'd get a better picture. Ah well, this will have to do.

Can you see the moat?

There's a little garden outside the wall. You can sit down and relax here after a tiring long walk or cycling.

Bells are considered to be sacrificial vessels. They are used to offer sacrifices, tell time or sound alerts. Depending on its function, its body is incised with certain inscription letters and decorative patterns.

A bell to warn of an impending attack.
